Ok so almost ready to stone chip the underneath of the estate... Before I go out and buy the wrong thing let me pick your brains please..

Halfords sell a hammerite stone chip sprayed straight from the can, or on eBay I can get various other brands that require a Shultz gun... What's the difference?

Any benefits from using the Shultz gun or will the can be ok?

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

the Shultz gun as you can leather it on to your required depth, with a spray can you will use dozens to achieve the same result at more expense!

Shultz guns are cheap check them out on ebay

Well what I have done is protect all the underside with a hammerite anti-rust paint, brushed on a few coats and the plan was to spray a stone chip over that. The stone chip would be the final layer, sprayed on with the Schultz gun.

As far as I'm aware, stone chip need not be painted over? It can be the final layer?

If you have already painted the underbody I would apply underbody wax. Stone chip should be applied to bare metal or a primed surface then painted over with the top coat.

I'd suggest you look at an underbody wax (not the Waxoyl shit) I recommend the Dinitrol range of products. They recomend you apply a thin layer of cavity wax first then the underbody wax. wax is the logical thing to apply on the underbody, you apply it to the rest of the car, why not the underbody?

Have a look here http://www.rust.co.uk

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Sorry I haven't replied sooner, im sure stonechip is pours like primer so needs to be overcoated with something.
Sounds like you already have something but have a look at u pol raptor !!

Ok I'll investigate that, cheers...

Seen that raptor stuff, people were using it on the flat beds of pick up trucks.

Anyone else know if the stone chip can be the final layer?

I'd take Rick's word on it considering autobody and paint are pretty much his profession.

Right update

I was wrong!!

It isn't pours and it can be used as a final finish underneath.

It wont stay spotlessly clean so wouldn't be great for a concourse build as it does stay rubbery so obviously ideal for underneath as its designed for.
