Hi I recently brought a turbophil head off of someone that never fitted it. I went to visit ac Dodd the other day to check the rest of my engine components before machining them, we discovered that the head had had water sat in it for a while and caused a bit of damage.

So today I stripped the head and started to clean it up, I think I will need a couple of new valves so will contact Phil about replacements. What I wanted to no have I done a good enough job cleaning it all up or do I still need to do more if so what should I do. I've been using lots of wd40 and degreaser to get rid of all the surface rust then uses a wire brush on a drill to clean it all.

One thing I learned today is how much actual work goes into doing these cylinder heads they are a work of art here are quite a few pics for you to pass your opinions on thanks

Was the water damage caused by you? was going though port wall caused by you whilst cleaning it up? if the answer is no to both i would get your money back

What do you mean Wolfie? This is all new to me. The head was never fitted it was stored badly and seem to get water in it? I can't see any holes or cracks in it?

Just to clear this up. I did this head a few years ago for somebody, it was a complete job with new valves, guides, springs, fully ported & skimmed etc
Unfortunately, though the previous owner never used the head it looks to have been stored with the remains of the titanic & this is how Clive has bought it.
The dark patches in your previous picture looks to be the casting mark on the divider between the inlet ports. This is not a hole.

Thanks Phil. I hope you don't think I was in anyway implying that any of this was anything to do with you. You work is amazing. I was merely wanting people to give me there opinion on weather I had cleaned it up enough to use and not ruined all the work you initially put into it.

No worries mate, I just wanted it to be clear to others that I hadn't sold the head to you in that state, it was caused by the previous owner.
There's not any real damage you can do cleaning it up, just be careful on the valve seats, though judging by the state of the valves the seats may need recutting, or a good lapping at the very least.

Cheers phil I was going to give it a go at lapping in the valves and if they don't seem to seal well I will get new seats installed. Also could you pm me with a price for a couple of replacement valves or where I can get them from

I don't think anyone would think you would sell a head in that state Phil, i may stand corrected but this seems to have been sold as unused as new? pretty poor especially if its someone off here, glad to here that what i thought was holes is just casting marks

You won't need new seats fitted, but they may well need a light cut, as you say try lapping them and see what they look like, (fingers crossed)

fortunately valves are pretty cheap,
