Material will have bearing on performance.

A 2" maniflow will be up to the job.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Was it by barry bad boy boost?

People have made 200+bhp with a 2" system

Drives
-Ford S-max Mk2 Ecoboost
-Rover 100 VVC #2 - track project

Searching is all you need on TurboMinis

Mine included.

Although, I'd have suggested larger if he'd have said 200.

Somewhere around Swindon

i expect 2" is fine, turbos generally need larger bore exhausts than N/a in my experience so i went for a 2.5 playmini system does the job well although i dont think they make them anymore

With turbos the key is minimum back pressure after the turbine, which can be achieved by going larger. But unlike an NA engine there is no point where an exhaust becomes "too big" (for the sake of performance). But you do reach a point where going bigger nets no noticeable gains, and just makes you look/ sound like an idiot. I would agree with everyone else and say that a 2" system would probably be fine, unless you looking at over 200 bananas in which case a 2.5" might be a little better.

A well designed 2" exhaust is restriction free up to about 150 Hp, restriction free meaning it gives within a few % of open pipe power.

The science behind this is that an engine doesn't care about exhaust diameter (either being pipe or silencer) it cares about flow. Given the fact that 1 sq.in. Of pipe flows around 115cfm, and an engine needing 2.2 cfm of exhaust flow per BHP you can calculate the performance threshold of say a 2" pipe:

(3.14 x 1^2) x 115 = 361cfm. ----> 361 / 2.2 = 164 HP

Now given the fact that a well designed silencer flows about 95% of pipe equivalent, and most of us do in fact use silencers a well designed 2" system with 2" silencer(s) is able to flow a restriction free 155BHP.

Accordingly a 2.25" system is good for 193HP, a 2.5" system is good for 238HP. (Methodology developed by David Vizard, google search exhaust science vizard if you want more info.)

To provide some real world data, a Integrale evo running a chipped 280HP (210 standard) through its very well designed standard 63mm or 2.5" straight through system easily sees 300HP after fitting a 3" system running exact same boost (I
ran mine @ 350HP)

This brings us to turbo territory where the words too big are not listed in the dictionary, have a look at
this article on turbo exhaust design by Garrett engineer Jay Kavanaugh:

http://www.tercelreference.com/tercel_info...ust_theory.html

Have fun reading!

I once read in a book, maximum boost? Or something like that? the best turbo exhaust is the least exhaust haha

Speeding is like masturbating, everyone does it, but not all of us film it and put it on the internet

All pipe has a resistance to flow. The longer the pipe the greater the resistance so the length of the system has to be taken into consideration as well as the diameter
