hi it Steve again I now taking my clutch out and stripped the engine and now I have found that a bearing has broke in the gearbox it still works and turning it not jamming up or nothing the bearing that has broke is on the left hand side on the main shaft I think it is where the speedo is connected to and a bit of the gearbox is holding the bearing in place and just to the left had side of the box is where the diff is connected to a little cog any help would be grate |

It's quite common for this bearing to fail, your looking at £50 for a new RHP quality one. It might be worth rebuilding it with new bearing throughout (£150) From experience I would also always change the idler gear bearing on the gearbox and transfer case just to be safe. You need to host the pictures elsewhere such as photobucket and copy and paste the image code. Thats what i do anyway. As the others have said this bearing needs to be changed as a minimum! |

The doible roller is in the centrre web, .the one at the end near the first motion is a large single roller. I think that the bearing in question is the double roller |

Get a haines manual for a mk 1 or 2 metro. They cover gearbox refurb in good detail On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:
