Hi all,

Got a small problem with my engine. The clutch seems to be ever so slightly dragging. You can engage gears; be it a little on the stiff side, and reverse crunches in slightly. This is with the throw out stop adjusted per haynes. Clutch is a pre-verto MED ultralight jobby with orange diaphram and fast road friction plate.

If I wind the stop out so its free from the cover the clutch doesn't seem to drag at all. Can get gears fine. It only happens when the stop is adjusted (Foot on clutch, wind in, foot off, one flat etc).

Any ideas? Ive bleed the system again, the arm and plunger are fairly new'ish (few 100 miles if that) slave was new when I built the motor a few years back and theres no spongy feel on the pedal. I have had the motor out for a while to sort a gearbox issue (now sorted), when I check the flywheel and back plate they seemed fine.

Any ideas to what it might be would be great.

Cheers.

Complete setup was brand new last year and has had hardly any use. Feels strong enough when the stop is out.

Was thinking either slave or master. Bleed it and there was no air in the system but will strip it down and inspect as it has been sitting in a damp garage for a while. Pivot pins where new as I converted from verto and brought the lot.

Cheers.

Wear in pedal/clevis/clevis pin at connection to master cylinder.
Sounds like the whole set up has just enough throw to clear the plate and the one flat on the plunger restricts it. You should be able to get far more than you need so there is play somewhere.

The slave should move the push rod out by 0.5-0.55" - measure it and see what you're getting.

Thought I would drag this back up as the problem is still here.

Bit of an update on what I've done.

Changed both master and slave cylinders.
Changed arm, clevis pins, plunger and release bearing

It's still dragging though. If I have an assistant press the clutch down then pull the arm out further with a bar the drag stops.

Clutch pedal feels light for an orange diaphram, bled the new system with an easy bleeder as well.

I'm stumped now tbh. The only thing is the problem started when I changed the flywheel cover, but I've gave it a close inspection and there's no cracks in it.

Anyone know anything else to try? I guessing its flywheel related, possibly a knackered diaphram? The setup ain't that old from med though.

I did think about this dude, but it will be the very last resort, either that or bollock the arm towards the cover.

Cheers for the offer though, I'll keep it in mind to try if it comes to it
