I've got 3 lots of NCB on 3 different cars, but am thinking about getting another car and am not looking forward the the insurance quote :( (although I'm hoping the quote will be less than the cost of buying a trailer)

Still got 2 more mini's to get back on the road so might be insuring 6 cars at some point in the future (eek)

I'm sure there are people on here with more than one car. Do you insure them all separately or use some kind of fleet policy to cover them all? Does a policy to cover all cars allow for modifications as well?

Cheers

Neil

I insure my road car in its own right using my NCB, my track car is also insured in its own right, but with a extremely limited mileage (3000 a year I think) and all modifications delclared. My dad runs his own motor trade business so I pay him an amount every year towards his premium and so am covered to drive any other vehicle with the owners permission, whether it is insured or not. This covers my diesel chugabout and also anything else I happen to have knocking about at the time. It covers any vehicles of my own, you have to register the vehicles with the insurance company though, if you are keeping them for more than 1 month duration.
The only thing I have heard in the past Re: getting a trade policy for your own use, is that you might have to be able to prove that you are carrying out some sort of motor trade business. Not sure of the accuracy of that statement, it is not a problem to me as I work on other peoples cars from time to time anyhow, its just something people have told me in the past.

Cheers for the info. The quote for the car with no NCB was not as bad as I thought (366 fully comp, 313 TPFT), but I will enquire about a trader policy as well.

I have made tentative enquiries in the past for my own trade policy, expect quotes of around the £1200 mark.

I found about the saem amount tom...

Remember they will pay out expecting you to be a trader and thus able to get cars DIRT cheap.

Its ok, but if you have a nice car you want insured rather than just covered you might want to re-think!

Not so much a problem now as decided against buying this other car as the seller wants too much money for it.

Looks like the missus will get her holiday after all :)

I got a private policy to keep my NCB going on a laid up mini. Got a classic policy on another car (agreed value). Then have a traders policy for other motors and customer cars and third part indem. The road risks (full comp including social domestic & pleasure) of my traders policy was just short of £700

I used to have a trade policy (£600/year fully comp) but it was getting very expensive and in the final year I only had the choice of third party only(about £1200/year) or fully comp (£2500) and that was with no claims and a clean licence. They then imposed a restriction that they wern't covering anything older than 25yrs, american or custom. I ended up insuring my cars with separate policies in the end as I stopped buying and selling so much.

A mates brother though has an enthusiasts policy which works a little in the same way as the traders policy but more suited to the private user. Not sure how much it costs him but he covers his scooby road car, scooby rally car, service van and landrover all on the same policy. I think he got it through Adrian Flux.
