I have just started changing my internal house doors to oak veneer jobbies

The first door i have installed has gone swimmingly well apart from where i cut it down i got slight splintering, i used a fine tooth blade and lisa says its hardly noticable however i have another i need to take 10mm off top and bottom so would like ideas on how to stop this, a plane is not a good idea in my hands unless i am taking off 1-2 mm only

Not a chippy by any means, could clamp a sheet/piece of scrap timber to the edge of the door under the cut, ie cut through the door and the sacrificial piece. From having worked around and casually observed joiners I would say they cut doors to 2/3mm oversize anyhow and then plane them up to finished size to remove the spelching, planing from each end into the middle to avoid chipping a large lump off the run off end, when working on end grain, someone who knows may have a better idea.

Probably worth getting someone with a decent circular to cut them to size if you want them perfect without messing around with a plane. I've got one of these http://www.festool.co.uk/products/pages/pr...plus-fs-gb-240v cuts so clean its like a factory finish.

If you score the cut line with a craft knife first then cut with the saw on the waste side of the line this should stop the splintering mate

A little bit of masking tape either side can help more than you would imagine (if we are on about a lamiated door and not a solid jobby.
