Is this common practice? What are the reasons people do this?

Thanks

Advantage having it connected on a road car is better mpg. There is no reason not to have it. It may be disconnected to mask other problems

The Boom Boom speaker Police!

When running a dissy on a turbo lump, some people disconnect the vac advance (amongst other things) to fix the ignition timing at a set number.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Thats not right. MPG will drop off!

on cruse you want a lot of advance, and that is what the vac unit does. Run with a low advance on cruse andd you'll need more throttle for the same torque required to keep the car moving along at a constant speed. Increase the advance, thus increasing the torque, you then need to use less throttle to stay at the same speed. Less throttle, less air, less fuel.....................

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
