I have seen an HIF44 carb in apparently good condition for a very cheap price. Wuld i tbe worth my while to buy one of these and the Turbo carb repair kit and convert it as opposed to trying to find a turbo carb?

One of the carbs i'm looking at says that its missing the piston damper - how hard is this to replace?

dont buy this without the damper as the carb is US without it

you need a compleate carb!

no

it is the main part of the carb you see from the top

the damper and dashpot are matched, so you need to keep them paired together

a pair from any other hif44 will do the job, but I'd make your life easy and try and get hold of the correct turbo carb

I've spent hours before trying to tune carbs with mis-matched parts!

Its not worth it!

Get a turbo carb.

The description on this one isnt very clear, is there a way to tell from the photograph if this is actually a turbo carb?

that is not a metro turbo carb, the metro's (to my knowledge) were never fitted with the electronic control thing.

however the easy way to spot a turbo carb is that it will have a machined groove at the top of the dashpot where there is a clip that attaches supposedly to stop the plastic screwed top blowing out under high boost pressure.

That is indeed the maestro / montego 1600/2000cc carb.

Nothing at all special or interesting
