As I have the ability to assign a different email address to all the websites/forums/companies I use, I have the ability to track and block any spam that comes in.

I've had 5 phishing emails on my TurboMinis email address in the last 2 hours.

Anyone else had stuff come in regarding banking or mobile phones ?

Yep, 3 from natwest wanting confirmation of my details.

I don't even have a natwest account!

This is FORD country, on a quiet day you can hear Vauxhalls rusting.

That's a worry, as we don't publish your email anywhere.

Let me check the server logs ASAP.

Logs checked - no unusual activity on the DB or server.

I've had no spam today (well nothing I don't normally get). I'll keep monitoring it.

I've had a NatWest email this morning too, but in my hotmail address. I've had it before, this isn't the first time.

NatWest and Orange - annoying as I use both of them, but the email address betrayed them as being spam.

Might be a bot programme trawling a members list looking for addresses maybe.

Instead of using a free email account which I have no control over (Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo etc) I actually pay for a domain name from 1and1.
This allows me to have thousands of different email addresses with the same account so I can separate them.

turbominis(at)vipernoir.co.uk
tmf(at)vipernoir.co.uk
minimania(at)vipernoir.co.uk
facebook(at)vipernoir.co.uk
etc
etc

Allows me to detect where spam is coming from i.e. who has passed on my email address, and set up either a block or a divert.
Works a treat.

Shame you have to use 1and1 for it, though - they are clowns.

Just been looking into this a bit more - a lot of you have put your email addresses in posts in the forum - while there's nothing wrong with that, it does mean it can be harvested for spam.

The only one I can't find, however, is turbominis@vipernoir.co.uk - but doing it with an (at) still allows it to be harvested.

Will keep digging.
