Just got my mini off the boat, engine started OK but the clutch pedal is solid, no movement at all. I tried wacking the arm a bit but nothing is shifting, anyone got any ideas on how to loosen this? I Think the hydraulics are OK and Its a Verto.

Is the clutch engaged or dis-engaged? I'd guess you pressed the pedal once then it went hard?

I've used a big bar before now to encourage the arm to move. plenty of WD40 on the moving bits always helps too.

You might find that it is the release plunger seized in the clutch housing cover. I have come across this a couple of times before. This, and the pivot on the release arm are about the only places that run close enough fits to seize up. What has possibly happened as well is that by pressing the pedal, you have managed to shift it outwards, but it will not return. Further pressing of the pedal causes the slave cylinder piston to reach the circlip at the end of its bore, hence the pedal goes solid as a brick!
As Wil says, WD40, a big bar, or heat, will be your best weapons to sort this out.

OK thanks guys, it did indeed go down a bit the first time, but not all the way. I am not sure if its engaged or not as theres still a wheel off to get the tyre repaired I guess I could jack it up and find out. I have soaked it in WD40 and will take off the slave tonight, check that and then apply a bit of brute force.

Ok

You were right, the clutch was siezed in the dis-engaged position, levering it towards the slave freed it off and I got to take my first drive of a mini for around 30 years... and it was just as much fun as I remember, had a grin from ear to ear. American's can't quite beleive it, next target is to sit next to a Hummer at a red light...

Now, where's that turbo engine....
