Folks, anyone know if this is possible? Someone told me it is but they weren't sure either...

Just moved in to my new house and it's been completely wired for sky, sat dish the lot.. There is a splitter box in the loft that I can connect an aerial to, but no aerial... So picking up fook all!

I used to have sky in the old place and still have the box (in my parents loft I think) so if it's possible I'd do that.

I'm sure there is an old aerial in the old folks garage too but the box would obviously be easier.

I have googled this but all I'm finding are other forums and some are saying yes and some are saying no..

you can buy a card from sky for a tenner to get most of the freesat channels, or buy a cheap freesat box and swap them over.

ah looks like the tight bastards have upped it to 25 quid!

if thats the case it might be worth considering a free sat box like the one below, for not much more you'll get HD, and if youve got 2 cables coming down from the dish it would be worth considering a box with a built in DVR. (basically you need on cable for recording and one for watching)

Ok great.. There is defo more than one cable, it's a double gang sized aerial point with 3 ports.. TV, sat & radio. The tv is a bigger sized hole (female I think) and sat & radio are slightly smaller (male if I recall).

what you would need for the DVR is two sat cables,

the reason being there is a vertical and horizontal signal recived by the dish, some channels are on one, some on the other... the reciver outputs 13 or 18v to the LNB on the dish to switch between the two. to get the whole range of channels for watching and recording simualtaniously the DVR boxes have two inputs, you can still use them with one cable, but you'll have to watch what your recording.

Also worth mentioning... the LNB on the dish would need more than one output to connect to the two cables, some only have one output.
