not sure if there are any Peugeot specialists on here but thought it was worth a try.

My business partner has a 57 plate 307 CC HDi (no we're not hairdressers!) which has developed a few problems of late. We have found a local 'specialist' who has had a look at it but its still not 100%.

It started a couple of months ago when the car was starting to stink of diesel. This was diagnosed at a local garage and repairs/ replacement undertaken of fuel injector/s (work not undertaken by specialist) (its a bit vague and I've only got the invoice to go on and car speak is another language to David!)

Now the car has developed a starting issue. Sometimes it goes first turn of the key, sometimes it takes 4 or 5 attempts to get it going; there is no rhyme or reason for this either. The rev counter is no also doing its own thing and warning lights all over the place (it has been diagnosed with a faulty side airbag). Not sure if it is linked or not but the garage comment that they thought the starter was on the way out and suggest a cost of £800 for works. Now I've just questioned the price but not sure if that is to include other works we already know about. Perhaps a DMF and clutch causing the damage to the starter? This lead me to think is there a pickup sensor on the flywheel that causing a starting issue?

The car was also way down on power; issue reported was no power to pull away at junctions etc.
The specialist removed and cleaned out the EGR valve and reported this was pretty bunged up and has to an extent brought back the performance.

Any ideas?

cheers

Rob

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

you have 2 separate faults here rob, without going into detailed reasons.

change all the slippage hoses to the injectors, to buy this hose in say a meter length is cheap as chips, the second fault is a goosed crank sensor change that also this is what's causing poor running its gone in to limp home mode. do that and report back to us

hope this helps

If the DMF is at the end of its life it sheds lots of metallic particles which can affect the crank sensor and muck up the starter.

Big bills if that is the case. I,m afraid

Cheers guys. My thought was a possible issue with crank sensor linked to a humped dmf.

Andy, its going as soon as he can get it running good enough to trade.

Nothing back yet steve. The irony is we had an early 106 rallye and a facelift 306 dturbo many years ago and had no significant issues with them. However i've heard nothing but bad things about the 307

I'll bear it in mind. Think a new one is only about £80 though

"Not sure if it is linked or not but the garage comment that they thought the starter was on the way out and suggest a cost of £800 for works"

How quickly is it turning over?

Check all the engine earth straps, it probably isn't that but it's quick and easy to do. I've just needlessly replaced the started motor on my '03 V70 because the earth strap _looked_ OK but when I actually grabbed it (after replacing the starter) it came away in my hand. The nice big grommet over one end had trapped water and the whole cable had corroded through.
