Hi again I currently have a few spare engines around and a supercharger so am going to supercharge the 850 , it has a low cr from std about 8.3-1 ? How much boost is ideal. :). Not to bothered if it lasts 5 mins

None.

anything above 10-12 psi is a waste of time with a suck through is a waste of time.

I say 10-12 as it will depend to a small extent how hard you rev the motor.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

What's the cam profile on an 850? Might be worth changing it for a 1275 of 998 standard one.

Otherwise go for it I think 5 or 6 psi would net some acceptable power. My calculations show 1:1 pulley ratio will give around 10psi (with an MG metro cam), but this does not account for losses.

BTW I was just being facetious :)

I seen Shorrock charged 850's before which apparently worked well.

sounds like a few minutes? hours? days? of fun strapping a blower on an unknown engine

nah im sure its doable on the cheep to be somewhat reliable and make an 850 make enough power to move

I had one on a standard 998... was a bit overkill

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

finish date set for project 1... march 2018

It worked well on my 998 when I first put the charger on..

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Northamptonshire.

Go for it m45 roughly puts out 10 psi of boost standard pulley

Not sure how it works out on a classic mini running our size bottom pulley,

-21% reduction with a +2% bottom pulley on a bmw mini gives -23% reduction most you can get not sure on the BHP figures not man people done it

with about 6 psi you'll up the wheezy asthmatic 850 from its 38 or so horses to maybe 40 at a push, with 10-12 psi you might crack 50hp.

obviously you might get better returns with a better head and exhaust system,

I'm guessing you don't want to touch the bottom end, so will be sticking with the std cam, but be aware that the 850's don like hot cams and heavy valve springs as they don't have cam bearings.

the only other thing I'd say is I don't think the pistons are particuarly strong, I reckon they will fall apart if you buzz it too much, or if you put too much power through them, however I cant see them having an issue till 50hp.

Give it a go, a lot will depend on if the engine is ok to begin with and how you drive it. My 998 was build in 69 and I charged it for 5 years before deciding I would like to have a go at building an engine.. But that was for the experience of building my own rather than my other one being knackered..

It's only the centre bearing they don't have.
