Hi

I bought some 12 inch wheels today 8 wide. What tyres should fit on those?

Would it require body mods to run them?

I know of no road tyre that will fit an 8" rim. And actually I don't know of any race tyre either.

8s are extreme on any mini, the front will need mods to the wings, a-panel and front panel. Plus you'll have to fit stops on the rack to stop the wheels fouling the inner arch.

With 12" wheels I'd stick with 6" wide maximum.

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

Any photos of the wheels? Sure they will clear the radius arms etc?

Have you measured them or is that the size on the wheel? Ive made the mistake of measuring a wheel from edge to edge, you need to measure bead seat to bead seat, this should explain better

The widest road tyre I've seen for a 12" wheel is 165. I've got these on a 6.5" wide wheel and wouldn't like to try on anything wider.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Those Camac tyres are shit. I wouldn't put them on my trailer!

Thats the size of the wheel. Is was planning on 7x12's but some guy popped up and sayd i have 8x12's

Beeing a bit of an impulsive buyer i bought them on the spot*oh well*
The guy said he had fittet maxxis tyres on them... never heard of it though.

They were standard wheels 4, 5x12 spaced to the outside.

Jup those wore the ones! ... yet 8 inch is 203.2 mm so a 175 tyre should be streched 28.2 mm correct? That shouldn't be the problem then... the part of the body mods is a different thing for me though... im running mexico wheel arches ( gonna buy them on imm) and i don't know if they will cover the mods... i wouldn't have a problem with a wing mod but modified a pannels... thats a new thing to me ( ran 7x13s with no mods at all... just some arch rubbing when cornering)

Here's my mates 13x8's if that helps with anything, I think the a panels have had some trimming but it does sit very low.

Thats the look i am looking for...
Say... 175 /70... does that mean the tyre height is 70 % of the wide? So about 3 inch? ( 122 mm.. thats a bit huge right...)

Yeah that's right, it is a bit big, but I think you may struggle to find something the correct width for 12", might be worth making a cardboard template of the overall size and placing up against your 13's to see whats what, think of it as a better ride due to more tyre haha.

Gonna have a chat with the local tyre man about what would work. ( i know he pulled a 165 12 on a 7 inch rim once) and he has a great knowledge of what's arround. If he doesn't see an option i make a nice table out of them and have some other wheels made up.

Soft ride my ass... its a mini!!! Grts

Trust me, I've been searching the entire world for wide 12s, slicks or not. All I end up with are the A048s. 7" wide max. 8X12 are useless, sorry. A 175/70 will not fit a Mini.

I have seen 165/50r15 on an 8j before, stretch was fooking huge!

For a 12 I woukd personally go for a 12x6 with a tiney offset or a - offset if thats the look you want.

At one time there was a race series that used 12" wheels so 12" slicks were available. Can't remember what it was though. But a mate of mine (probably 20 years ago) had a set of 12" slicks on his hillclimb mini. Been NLA for years. I bet you can count on 1 hand how many cars use 12" wheels now. The first Renault Twingo springs to mind.
