Hey all
rite my clubman is in dier need of a re spray and the rust killed!
I went for a quote at my local car spray shop and i was quoted in excess of ?2000 which i thought was very very steep
This consisted of: new A panels, new drivers front wing, new skuttle pannel (although i think its fine!), the seam at the rear taken off, new metal sections welded into the rear near the arch, spray paint (porsche yellow and citroen pasonda blue) and labour
The thing is im not convinced all the panels stated there need replacing so i was wondering if any of u guys have had resprays, where was it done, price, what was done and also if anyone on here actually sprays for a living/pass time and wud like to give it a go!
Im looking into spending about ?800ish maby a bit more
Any help wud b gr8!
cheers guys

Doesnt sound too bad with all the work and ifs it a very good respray. Your looking ?1k upwards just for a good respray. Sounds like they want to do a good job of it if they want to replace those panels. Maybe they've seen surface rust or the beginnings but want the paint job to last hence advising those panels are done.

I took my mini into mini bitz of northampton to get the cars rust problems sorted. They quoted me ?700 to do: Both A-panels, D/S wing, Outer sils, boot floor, rear valence, reskin one door, straighten the other (and bootlid) and to spray the new panels. They ended up doing the inner sils aswell and respraying the whole car (appart from the roof) for ?850.

However, the paint job isnt the best athough it does look the part: (pics here: http://www.miniresource.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1077). The paints got a few chips in it (4 months old) and seems to scratch/chip easily there was also a few other things like undersealing the boot *evil* etc...but for the ?850 im not going to complain.

If i was doing it all over again and similarly had to take it in to get the job done i would pay for a better job.

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

I can recomend you DONT go to a place in chesterfield that used to advertise in the mini magazines - the guy who works there drove a brown 1275GT turbo with (apparently) 179hp...

I took my mini there and it ended up a right sh**ter...

I remember that brown clubby dave. Smoked like anything and wasnt overally quick. Remember seeing it on a RR day in a mini mag and it pulled about 98bhp or something. Apparently the RR bloke said the turbo was knackered!

Sure its the same one.

For the money you'd be better off DIY.. is that possible?

yep i was at big bang , had a good laugh with the VW`s till my clutch packed up

never been to MITP so it was prob minimails car , i was at their place 18 months ago and one of them said they liked the colour of mine, never thought any more about it , until i saw it in miniworld and then at combe this year. They said sorry for coping but its too late now.
as for the spray i did it myself , quite easy once you get the hang of it .?100 is for all the materials start to finish

ive gone the diy route, takes a long time if you go back to bare metal (i did on 80% of this one) see pics

you will need:-
1) Orbital sander(s) B&D Mouse etc - around ?40each (i used 3!!! so ?80)
2) Compressor, ?100+ for a new, get one s/h like i did (?30)
3) Gun, ?20+ from machine mart (mine was ?30)
4) Wet and dry / sandpaper, (lots) prolly about ?20 odd worth
5) consumables (tack cloths, masking tape, t-cut, rubbing compound) about ?30 worth
6) PAINT! i bought 3 litres (only paid for 2) from halfords ?25 per tin, shite loads of colours ?50
7) Laquer, Optional, dependant on paint type, i bought 3 litres cant remeber how much.
8) Thinners, ?10
9) newspaper, old sheets etc FREE!
10) Elbow grease, Almost free.

so your looking around ?250-300 ish, but then you have the kit to do it again!!!

it does take ages though, and sometimes it feels like its never gunna end, but its worth the saving (more to spend on engines!)

just finished the last bit of laquering, so new pics coming soon.

Sooperdooperturbocooperexpertengineering!
