Hi. I started looking around for parts for my engine the other day and came to the conclusion that boring my engine out ( 500pounds) , buying pistons( 400) getting them fit to rods( 250) and new shels would cost me the same or more than buying a ready build 1293 half block from minispares... and that one is even balanced. ..

What would your thoughts about that be... do i buy one ore build one. Considering i do have 3 1275 and a 1330 blok on the shelf...

And if buying one would be the option. .. where would it be the best to get one with good pistons... going supetcharged 10 psi and 9ish cilinder pressure. ..

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...

£500 for a rebore? It cost me £80 a reputable machine shop. Maybe £25 to get the pistons put on the rods.

Get a quote to put it on a pallet and get it done in the UK, might work out cheaper.

yes was thinking to put it in the back of the car and go back and forward to the uk myself... ( boat cost me 50 pounds or so) maybe i get in touch with someone to get them machined an engine and just pay up and bring one of my engines in exchange.

You'll find that most well known mini engine builders in the UK offer exactly what you have in mind, their engine kits require you to exchange your old engine...or else a surcharge has to be paid.

Same situation here in Holland, even with huge postage fees it makes more sense to have any engine work done in the UK. Me personally I have always found MED a pleasure to deal with...

I'm sure Mr Benross would build you an engine. I can probably help with a loan short engine if needs be.

Depending on how far you want to take it or not, Minispares offers a mild performance spec short engine already assembled by Bill Richards racing at a very competitive price....(200GBP surcharge vs. old engine).

Potential downside is you're stuck with their Evo cam profile which is an unknown to me. Please note that the Med kits include flywheel/clutch package, the MS built engine doesn't.

Ah just read in your original post that you want to go the supercharged route.

This tells me a couple of things, a) your engine won't be a revvy screamer, b) it won't be a 25psi 175HP/litre monster. Accordingly good quality cast pistons will be fine, as it is revs that kills pistons, boost actually helps cushion the TDC decelleration forces.

Cast pistons are less detonation resistant compared to forged equivalents however. The rootes type Bini charger has a pretty poor Volumetric and AdiabAtic efficiency (it flows air at only 60% efficiency robbing much drive power from the crank AND introducing much heat in the process).

The latter is not good detonation wise, which is why lowered compression is considered necesarry on Bini charger applications. Instead of blowing much extra cash on forged low comp pistons to run with an inefficient blower set up to start with, why not spend the extra cash on the Much much much more efficient lysholm twin screw type compressors as made by opcon autorotor?

http://www.hi-flow.com/HP003aSuper.html

Their much more efficient design robs less crank power and keeps inlet temps much more in check up to a point where running standard pistons with a slightly thicker Cometic head gasket to lower compression half a point all of a sudden becomes a very realistic option alltogether.

Remember, HP is not about psi boost but mass air flow...

I don't see any prices on there. The thing is... that i have a charger with only 2500 miles on the clock with a warranty note... ( the lates type) and also i would like to go the blow trough route instead of the suck trough.
