Thanks simon.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

I put mine in the vice ,around the drive square/socket point .then hang a 25 pound weight on it 2ft from the socket ,and then wind it up till it clicked as I apply the weight ,then read off the scale . if its 'off' I just mark it as 50 lbs/ft and work from there . ,

Why not take it into your local LAD Simon, the REME have calibrated torque meters attached to the wall. will take you about 3 seconds to see how far out it is.

BHP sells engines, but Torque wins races!

Yeh we can do that. Im calibration rep, and you can calibrate them in house. Or if your willing to wait, they could probably send it off to DSG to be calibrated.

We have a gauge in work which will do upto 150lbs iirc.

If you get desperate, I'm happy for you to send it to me for a quick once over. I did mine and tweeked it so that it was most accurate at the most used values as it was impossible to have it accurate at all ranges.

Interstingly, I also checked a cheaper wrench. I found that you could get it right at 50lbs, but the top end and bottom end of the scale went quita away out. My Teng tools one does the same, but the variation is smaller.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

It's a snap on 5ftlbs to 75flbs one I got of ebay, so I want to make sure it's spot on, as I am sick of over doing bolts lol.

Yes I am may just take it in to the LAD / DSG that's just behind my office, when I get back from my next trip away *oh well* if they can't help I may take you up on your offer wil. *smiley*

Because of the nature of the place I work, all torque wrenches have to be booked out of the tool-stores, pre-set at the specified torque and locked off, and then returned for calibration checking after the job has been completed.

I take all my torque wrenches into work once a year and calibrate them from 0-max so I know exactly what setting is required in lb-ft or Nm to get an accurate measure.

As long as there wasn't a mad stampede, I'm sure I could take a few into work and draw up an offset chart if anyone wanted it.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.
