Hi guys,

Just looking at getting a new dash display at some point. A lot of the displays seem to output a gear position.

Has anyone used any of these type dash before? if so, how does it get the signal?

Any information appreciated.

Mine has 2 magnets that you mount to say the pot joint and pick up sensor. You then have to tell it what gear you are in at certain revs, and from that it'll know what gear you are in from the engine revs and wheel speed.

Which dash do you have matty?
I've had a little snoop about and most are saying that its a calculated output. How does it configure neutral say if on an over run? Neutral isnt exactly vital but would be nice to have reading correct at all point.
Im looking towards the race technology dash 2

OT but had a gear indicator on my sports bike.

It worked as Matty says comparing speed (wheel rotation) against revs.

Basically you calibrate it in each gear at 2k then it works its own gear indication out. But the bike did have a neutral light that connected to it.

You could fool it by pressing the clutch and reving the engine while moving, making it think its in another gear but sorted its self out once you released the clutch.

What the mind can conceive the mini can achieve
MITP 2012 17.01 seconds 1/4 mile against "The Don"
MITP 2013 16.83 seconds 1/4 mile

cant MS work your gear out in that same way compare wheel speed to engine speed of coarse you would need a wheel speed sensor.

Thats the basic way I read about it, have to input your gear ratios, diff ratio and wheel circumference.
I only asked because the cars i've worked on before that used a gear display were sequential boxes with sensor plugged directly into the box, obviously not possible for a mini

Mine is this one.

The neutral light on this one I believe needs a ground signal, which isn't a problem on my install as I have a neutral position switch.

You could add a neutral switch onto a mini selector if you wish.
