I have seen some wear on diff pins before, but this is what a friend pulled out of a diff *surprised*

It's out of an free SPi engine, not much info on how it was used... (lot's of burnouts?)

Dazed and Confused....

I've seen something similar before. Usually loss of drive is experienced suddenly with the remains of the diff pin spat out through the diff casing and dumping the oil.

Just so you know for future maintenance, checking for wear in the diff pin is easy. Jack one of the front wheels up leaving the other on the ground. With the engine in gear, turn the raised wheel back and forth. lots of movement here indicates wear in the diff that needs looking at quick.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

ring problems are down to wear or abuse but although annoying it isn't a show stopper

That's a good effort.

This is FORD country, on a quiet day you can hear Vauxhalls rusting.

Looks like one of those uprated ones, from a few years ago. I've got one that looks the same.

Nice info.
To me it's a clear example of when you get an engine that doesn't have detailed history and you want to run it for a longer time you need to pull it appart.. (especially when someone gives it to you for free! *happy*)

Well let's put it this way, as this is how the crank mains look like I wouldn't use anything near the diff again.. especially as there's enough diffs around.

I've never seen one that worn without snapping !

I changed one for a chum last year which had snapped but still worked okay.

my mate snapped his crank on the way back from Malvern on the m6 just before junction 14, luckily we only had to get it to stoke, but it was funny a moke towing a moke with a make shift tow rope. Engine would still run!
