I'm going to be making a new exhaust for my car so that I can use it more on the road. My current exhaust is far to loud and won't go through the Mot.

Has anybody used the repackable type back boxes and are they any good? Is a centre and back box really needed or can a back box be used on its own? I know these are how longs a piece of string questions but hey Ho :) I will be making it from 2 1/4 stainless to match my down pipe.

What do you track day boys use?

Cheers Ron

I have a modified R5 GTT cup exhaust. It's large bore with a centre box and finishes where the subframe mounts. I'm sure the box is just for show and has no muffling effect!

I've heard Eden's car with no silencer, and would have thought that an n/a would be much louder without than a boosted engine, and many n/a just run one silencer, So I would have thought you'd be okay with just the one. It's going to be a massive improvement over none if that's what you have now.

I can recommend custom chrome in Nuneaton if you need some bits to make an exhaust, they made me a 3" system cheap as chips, i use one of their riffled back boxes, sounds great.

I used to refit a maniflow exhaust for the mot but I can't anymore due to changing the downpipe. Yes Tim I used custom chrome to get my pipe work for my downpipe. They did me a deal for cash which was nice. They also do the repackable ones. I need to go down and have a chat with them.

Short vid of the car on idle. And yes I know it's smoking 😜

My friends car with t3 and metro manifold passed castle combe sound testing with an open exhaust a couple of years ago. My N/a with single box struggled!

Hi mate I only have the rear box and seems ok. it's not a replaceable one, but a large stainless steel one.

Best 1/4 mile 13.2 seconds @116 mph

I usually go to the flying horse garage as it used to be up the road from where I worked. I had a advisory last year for being modified for track use 😃 I thought you had a friendly mot man Eden? Tim let me know I don't mind travelling.

I'm trying to get a mot before the spring so I can use it through the summer. Can't see myself doing much racing so want to do some road miles this year :)

2 of my mates were testers but they've both moved on. I've got a man that tests it now and allows me to go through it with him and just tweeks the idle for the emissions.

Tbh mate I'd take it heather, that guy passes right rot boxes and our cars are and need to be in good order to keep us alive

Cheers for the pm's all replied to.

Sounds like a single box at the rear should be fine. I think I'll give custom chrome a ring tomorrow. I'm not looking for a dodgy Mot, there is nothing wrong with the car. I've just found that some garages aren't used to testing cars that are slightly out of the ordinary.
