I'm shipping an engine and need to build a wooden create for it. Could anyone measure the rough box size of an engine, gearbox to rocker cover, clutch plunger to crank pulley etc etc.

Use a pallet, or half pallet screw a chip board base onto it then, ratchet strap the engine well down and then. ........ use cheap chip board & 2"x 2" lats to make a box around the crate, using screws, simple and job done.

That was the plan, but most international shipping companies charge on size as well as weight, so I was going to make my own using some 2x4 and chipboard, so that shipping is cheaper. just need to know a rough size of the engine. http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.p...tid=469104&fr=0 |

You need at least half pallet so the shipping pufflers can move it about, get the forks under it. Edited by BENROSS on 8th Jan, 2014.

That's true, I'll have a look at standard pallet size so I don't make it too small. I'm getting the box made up as work though, and they don't have any pallets, just lots of chipboard and 2x4. http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.p...tid=469104&fr=0 |

From memory, a standard Chep pallet is 40" x 48".
Metric is for people who can't do fractions. |

If you get stuck Pete, as you're in Cov, pop to see my friend John and see if he's got one you can measure.
