or this might happen...

i have left the mini a few months, and, as im getting married in 2.5 weeks, i thought about using the mini as my wedding car.

so, getting back onto the problem i had a few months back with it chopping power past 3.5k, i took it for a gentle drive. then my mate did who has a 350bhp 1951 willys pick up dragster.

he doesnt do gentle and the result was this slight blow in the head gasket. a piece even embedded itself 10mm into the intercooler fins!

i got 2 weeks to rebuild it now.

wank.

balls to the blower!!!

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

That is spectacular!
I agree, that there was nothing like enough compression on that end. They look like aftermarket studs - are they pulled?

the studs/nuts are minispares competition head bolt set and have only been undone t times now and the head had been on since i was running the blower and running 15psi so i dont think they were loose as it would have gone way way before now.
i'm not making anywhere near that psi at the mo.

haven't got the time to 11 stud it tim. need it for my wedding in 2 weeks!

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

I popped mine just like that in a brief period when I changed blocks and wasn't 11 stud like the old block.
Since drilling and tapping the block back to 11 it never happened like that again

Been looking at the minispares comp studs, they do quote 2 torque settings.
55 ft/lbs with arp lube
65 ft/lbs with oil

Having second thoughts now may just get arp.

What the mind can conceive the mini can achieve
MITP 2012 17.01 seconds 1/4 mile against "The Don"
MITP 2013 16.83 seconds 1/4 mile

Ran them on the van with no issues at daft boost levels and an aggressive ignition map.

And they are on my clubby now. Not had a HG failure yet.

The thing I've found with minispares stuff is, most of it works really well, but they get the odd quality issues now and then.

One of the lads at the club snapped the top off one of the Minispares 'uprated' studs just torquing it down, and NO, it was not the torque wrench *wink*

I used to use the updated minispares studs, in this build I went for arp.....

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

I was thinking of using them but think i'll keep with OEM studs or arp.

hmmm. i rebuilt it today and got it running again. i took a closer look at the blown head gasket. its not a bk450 but a british gaskets one. cant think why i wouldnt of fitted a payen one last time i had the head off. just shows you if you dont fit the decent stuff, it will bite you in the arse sometime.
