It's looking like i may have to sell my leon as i've just put in an offer on a house.

Want a car that's going to give better fuel economy and be generally cheaper to run.

As you are all a bunch of well informed petrol-heads, thought i'd see what your thoughts and feelings were on the Lupo GTi or Lupo Sport (the 100bhp one).

dont be a fag, at least get the gti. they're not that fast, so the sport would just be dull.

Personal opinion is that for the "newer" VAG stuff is that although they are solidly built, you don't get an awful lot for your money.

But I suppose you pay your money and take your choice, they are quite a cool looking thing I think, but don't know how quick they are?

but more importantly, 40mpg.

Petrol is over 90p a litre here now, so having a daily driver that does around 25mpg isn't a good plan when i'm trying to save cash.

I do love the older VAG stuff, but i'm not sure i'd have one as a daily driver again. Great cars though, when i'm done with the mini, i'll be getting an early mk2 gti as a toy. 2litre valver conversions are the way forward as alex and nicky. *happy*

40mpg? and you really think you would drive it gently enough to achieve that sort of fuel economy?!
Especially if you drive round town a lot, anything petrol engined will struggle to beat 25-30mpg in my experience.
If its economy you want buy a diesel, some of the more modern turbo diesel stuff is suprisingly quick, and more than that, with the torque surge when the turbo kicks in, they often "feel" a lot faster than the on-paper figures suggest.

I'm with tom. if you buy a slower car, you'll only give it more right foot to drive it the same speeds that you do now, and it'll cost you more. get a passat diesel. they're only about £1000, and do 50-60mpg, and are super comfy.

i don't need to free up any money and gain cash, otherwise i'd be going for a really shitty car.

I just want to cut down things like servicing, fuel bills, tyres and the vast depriciation that goes with a Seat.

I generally don't drive that fast anymore, just like chucking it round corners. So i think a 20vt and all the costs that go with it are a bit pointless. Just want a little fun car.

Diesels are getting better but still suck ass. I've had one diesel car and it was dreadful!!

Regarding petrol mpg, don't do a lot of town driving and i used to get around 38mpg out of my mk2 gti when i was being a good boy.

Really appriciate all the feedback guys. :)

Well I have a lovely subaru wich will return 30 ish to the gallon, although not nobbibng round town or commuting.

For this I have that slowish green mini I had at avon. Servicing costs ar minimal MPG is 40 to 45 (and believe me I don't have to try hard to get this) and even 40 miles a day is comfy with the nice MX5 seats I have.

This saves me £400 in petrol a year which pretty much pays for the Mini. Also the milage on the Sooby is kept low reducing wear and depreciation.

Booodiful

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

wouldn't want a mini as my everyday car again, but would love a valver mini as a toy.

Although i still maintain that turboing has got to be the most cost effective way to build a fast mini. you can spend around £4000 on a fast road engine that makes 115bhp or spend £1000 on a turb and get the same or more power. A no brainer. *wink*

Go for a turbo deisel. I borrowed a company seat ibiza 130 TDi Sport to drive down from Glasgow to Avon and got a gnats chuff under 50mpg sitting a speed weel above the limit! I was getting 55mpg running around town too. I've got a Golf 1.8T as my everyday car and quite frankly the seat performed every bit as well. Not sure how much you are looking to spend though

Ooooh, get you!?
Anyway, is that just milling about daily driving, or as suggested, is that when you have a little fun with it too?
