ello chaps!

right i'm in the process of buying some new bits for my car and don't really know what to do with regards to the crank.

i want to have some work done to it..... my options are

MED

Our entry level race crankshaft being reground to race tolerances then crossdrilled on both main bearings and big end bearing journals as Leyland Special Tuning
Then the crankshaft is wedged to our latest design to leave maximum counterbalance opposite to the big end diameter, then ni – tempered, checked for alignment, micro polished journals and finally balanced.

ForceRacing (no idea really though what i want from this list)

- Wedge crankshaft - £55
- Blade crankshaft - £55
- Backdrill crankshaft,eight positions - £60
- Crossdrill big end journals - £45
- Hand clean up of all remaining rough forged surfaces which leaves a much cleaner crank and reduces oil drag - £40

Swifty
DC5.2 CrankShaft

The above isnt really an option but to shut lee up i thought i would add it :p

I'm trying to marry up the like for like with regards to the cost of the med with what force offer and the med one seems to "offer" more on the face of it, although does cost more because it does give more from the list.

or am i missing anyone off the list that i havent looked at?

I know of plenty of folks (myself included) who run an absolutely bog-stock turbo crank. Mine is still on it's original grind too. No point grinding unless it really needs it.

Incidentally, I recall stories of how 6581 cranks are substituted for the lesser cranks when having this work done (and removing all the numbers) and the better cranks retained for the higher cost engines,

I think for turbo use, most leave the crank and opt to lighten the flywheel assembly instead

ring problems are down to wear or abuse but although annoying it isn't a show stopper

Mines a bog standard 6581 in its original grind that I bought for £5. 4000+ miles of abuse so far.

I've had the majority of the force racing list done to my crank. Removed 1kg from it. I would recommend Carl above the other suppliers.

Don't see the point in machining a hardened crank as you are removing a substantial amount of the hardened material.

Think mine was nearly 2kg off!

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

same here, getting decent results. I would love one of these cranks, the force ones especially look good, my turbo motor already red lines at 7k so I could probably benefit from one. im too tight though!

maybe I might splash out one day - I looked before and the force work is very competitively priced....

I went wedged balanced and heat treated. The engine is much smoother

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

How baggy are the bearing clearances? and I would also recommend polishing the tail of the crank where the primary gear journals are

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

The phrase reground to race tolerences makes me think they mean baggy as hell! lol

And that is the real point. Real race tolerances are tight as fook that cannot be determined off the shelf lol
