What con rod bolts where in The std turbo engine.
As anyone ever used std 1275 with there build and if so, have you faced any issues with them. I don't intend ragging the car but occasionally may want to open it up, and also may want to run the santa pod strip.

So do I really need to use uprated con rod bolts, or could I use std 1275 ones, Do I have to use new or can I use the ones that came out.
I don't think ive heard of any of the bolts failing before

they are the most stressed bolts in an engine,
for me there is no question about it £80 for a set of ARPs even if its just for piece of mind is worth it
many have re used the standard rod bolts with no issues but .. what if?

Yep my sentiments too. When they let go rod bolts can cost you your rods, pistons, gearbox/casing, crank, block, head etc!!

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

as john says if one lets go its total game over and loads of tears at bedtime.

yes, the std A+ rod bolts are strong, ok to 8k or more... but you only need one weak one from 100+k of abuse...

best spend the 80 quid then you'll never have to think about it again

Its well worth the expenses as if one lets go its bye bye engine.

Plus its not something you can change easily once the engine is built.

What the mind can conceive the mini can achieve
MITP 2012 17.01 seconds 1/4 mile against "The Don"
MITP 2013 16.83 seconds 1/4 mile

To be honest, I can't recall a singe rod bolt failure of any kind reported here at all.

My memory is notoriously shite though.

ive not herd of any reports of bad bolts or rods for that matter but for what its worth in terms of if that bolt lets go the engine and box is most likely trash... imo the best money spent on an engine..

Yep seen several. But in all honesty it has always been because of a lack of lubrication causing bearing failure and the bolt being the weakest link lets go.

I can't see an issue using OEM bolts if its going to be a motor for the road, but for the price difference it's worth going ARP.

What about mains bolts? Is it worthwhile getting a new or ARP set?

One thing to note about the main bolts, is that some centre strap kits have/had poor quality bolts supplied. It's worth checking that you don't have these fitted. Easily identifiable as they have 3 'dashes' on the head instead of the standard 6.

Yeah the mains bolts are well up to the job, although I do like to fit studs intead, but I like stuff like that....

spomthing worth looking at on the mains though is the dowels, these can bet a bit baggy, if they are I have to recomend the swiftune ones, they are really snug and are thicker, and only about 15 quid for the 6.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
