Hi

My boost gauge stopped working the other day, vac pipe still connected up, but noticed under the dash there was fuel sitting in the pipe. Started it up, and the fuel was bubbling around in the pipe. I'm guessing that it's knackered the gauge. Before I buy a new gauge and have the same thing happen, is there something I can fit in the vac pipe to stop the fuel? I seem to remember seeing something about it before, but couldn't find anything. Also is it normal to get fuel in the vac pipes? Don't want the megajolt to go the same way.

Thanks, James

Plumb the gauge further away from the engine if possible, preferably before the carb. Tee off the plenum if possible.

If it's a mechanical boost gauge, internals will likely be brass.

There is no reason fuel should affect it's operation.

You should be reading boost pressure at the manifold as this is what the engine 'sees'.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

It's mechanical, but a stepper motor electronic jobby I think. Only a cheap one though, about £30.

My main concern is the megajolt, don't want to fry the map sensor inside.

I'm sure I read about a one way valve type thing to stop the fuel, just can't find anything on it now.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Map sensors should always be mounted higher than any fuel, and always with the hose inlet pointing down. That way no fuel should ever reach the sensor.
