Right got my front tracking done after replacing the rack. The place only has one setting for all minis. Which i thought odd as some have inbuilt rear spacers, some run disk some run drums. So the track changes slightly year to year. And bearing in mind im running metri flanges which i thing widens the front track slightly aswell. I was wondering how these settings can possibly be correct.

Im sure mines towing out still but not really sure on how to check it. Worst comes to it ill drive back over to track road n race and get it done by someone who knows and not these selecta tyre monkeys.

Steve is absolutely right.I do all my own tracking - laborious but at least I know it is right.

That Trackrite device works pretty well if you have a large smooth and level surface to work on. (About £60 and you never need to trust a gibbon again)

A quick check if you can.

Measure from the edge of the centre tred pattern on one tyre to same point on the other tyre do this on the forward face and again on the rear face of your front tyres.

Toe in rear face figure is greater
Toe out front face figure is greater
neutral figures are equal

The tracking is the angle of the wheels relative to one another. The track width does not affect this and makes no difference. You could have the wheels 10cm apart and at 1 degree angle or 1000cm apart and at 1 degree angle, the end result in ANGLE is the same.

What tom said, I take mine to anywhere with a laser alignment rig and parallel is parallel no matter what wheels or width.

Ok fair enough. I was just wondering. I didnt know wether they ran the lasers tobthe rear wheels and did it that way rather than tracking the fronts to each other... Either way it handled alot better when dave did it so i think im going to pop back to him just to be sure.

Whilst true....not every mechanics ability to understand parallel or any other angle is the same !!!

There are a few local places with mega expensive laser equipment....who cant even give customers their car back with the steering wheel straight, then trying to blame tyres, suspension etc when the fault lies 100% with their ability to use the equipment !

And operators who don,t seem to understand the need to roll the car back and forth after each adjustment to allow everything to settle before re-checking (if they even bother to re-check)

I had mine checked and done at national tyres, jokers, cost me a new set of tyres as they could not work out the track rod end was duff, that said neither could kwik fit until the mot guy told them to check, then had it done for free on this super dupa machine, they tried to get me to pay for tracking at the back £20 per side lol!!
