hi there my names calvin ive relatively recently got hold of a mini turbo, its in a non working state now because work needs to be done. So far ive bought paddle clutch, green air filter, hilos, new rear subframe with bushes/camber etc, intercooler, uprated shocks, and a few variuos small parts.

I know that i need the turbo sent away or exchanged, but when that comes back what other sort of safe mods can be done without 1: burning a hole in my pocket and 2: blowing the thing up? can anyone help?

calvin.

hello and welcome!

By mods I assume you are after more power from the engine...

Well if its a std engine the most boost you can run is about 7-8 psi. After that you run in to detenation as the CR is too high... so the next logical mod is to drop the CR and then you can up the boost. The easiest way to drop the CR is to modify the head, at the same time you can get some porting work done, in much the same way you would on a std mini engine.

After that things like a different camshaft and an intercooler are good things too look at.

How much power do you want... almost anything is possible with a turbo, thats the best bit!

If it's only going to be quite mildly tuned, then i wouldn't bother with the paddle clutch, it won't be nessacery. An orange diaphragm and standard plate will cope fine.
Dont forget the transmission, theres no point having all the power in the world if the things going to drop to bits 2 minutes down the road.A strong bottom end is essential for reliability. So spend as much as you can there, you can always tune the engine later as time/money permits.
After even the basic mods i would strongly advise getting your car tuned on a decent rolling road, or you might end up with some funny shaped pistons.......... *tongue*

Cheers

im looking for a reliable 160ish bhp if thats possible. well obviously around the 200hp would be better but im sure it wont last long and im sure it would cost me ?????? to get there so a safe 160/170ish sounds cool.

Mines just a std turbo with intercooler, DV, slightly increased boost etc. Its as i bought it but im building a new engine for it when i have the time hopefully for next summer.

Going to be running a T2 aswell to reduce lag.

Hey guys, just out of interest i'd like to do a bit of a pole,

1, if you've finished your mini, what have you spent and how many bhp.

2, if you're building your mini turbo, how much budget have you allowed for the bhp you want ?(dont forget to say how much bhp you want/expect)

Think this could be interesting.
