Hello,

Could anyone please help in letting me know if these gears will need replacing? I tend to think so put wanted some opinions. My First gear is definitely done as it is missing some teeth (might explain the pitting in the crank bearings). I have a new one of those coming (thanks TurboDave!) but am not noticing my second gear could be an issue as well as the hub. Could anyone offer their expertise?
Thanks!

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

what i can make out with the pictures i would change the hub and 2nd gear as its worn and has some teeth damaged

the 2nd gear and hub are not expensive check it out available from minispares north ask for richard or jim
or order on line ........ fit it and forget it
no going back to it in a few months or years

yeah, I'd potentially re-use the sliding sleeve, but would replace the gear, but a macro lens would show it better.
If you feel like buying new, you can of course, but the sleeve is totally servicable IMO. The 100 quid a new one will cost would go a long way to a new GT turbo or whatever else you'd sooner spend money on.

If you can find a better used one, that might be an alternat path *wink*

Thanks for the assesments. The teeth on the sleeve aren't chipped or broken off but definitely dull compared to 3/4.
I'll definitely go for a new gear and see about a sleeve. Benross is definitely correct, I'd definitely not like to have to worry about this or rebuild it down the road.

If you have unlimited rescources, then jump on it for sure. Given the price of gearbox bearings and (quality) layshafts these days, you just need to decide on what to do.
If these that 'spares are selling are of NOS MPi era parts, then you might actually be better off with a good-used one from the "metro" era anyway if the typical MPi quality is anything to go by.

*meant to say replacement, not new.
Was looking at used gears from Guessworks. Price seems decent and reputation is good
