Is it just me, or could a lot of those "improvements in time" simply be as a result of the driver increasing his familarity with the course?

A similar thing happens in the film "Goodbye Pork Pie" (film from New Zealand), to a mini.

I first saw this when I was ~15 and thought it was fantastic. I got hold of it a couple of years ago again and was bitterly disappointed.
