Hi all.
got a free engine blok today it looks not that bad except one thing. The primer gear has eaten a bit of the casing due to a broken bearing i think. Will try and attach a foto here so you guys can give your thoughts on it.

Although I'm not planning on using it without a strip down or have no plan on using it in the near future ( or using it at all) it would be nice to now if it is usable.

Depending on your perspective, that is either scrap, or in need of machining and the addition of a spacer.
If it was a 4-bolt retainer type, I'd probably just scrap it.

Engine block and primary gear ???

It looks more like the idler gear (middle of the drop gears) bearing in either the gearbox casing or transfer housing casing.

And the needle rollers are missing....

Repairable, yes, but not easy.

It looks to have worn below the outer race of the needle roller bearing.

A or Aplus ?

If it's A plus it should have had the larger needle roller bearing but there was a lot of mix/match at the change over.

As TD says, the best A plus gearbox casings (so worth saving) have the three bolt 3rd motion shaft bearing retainer.

What's the casting number, DAM **** on the gearbox part ???

5626 is the good one.

It's the three bolt one (stronger because the original fourth bolt was in the weakest area of the casting so made it weaker still and they thickened the casting anyway around that area on the 5626 when they deleted the bolt hole).

Worth keeping, at least until you decide what to do with it.

Looks easy enough to repair. Just skim the thrust face flat and fit a thicker thrust washer to accommodate.

Yes out if interest would it be ok with a roller bearing idler gear? Had a similar issue on a friends car and he just fitted Timken gear.
