Hi Guys,

Do these need to be pressed into the primary gear?

Bit baffled, i thought it was just clean up the primary gear surface after removing the old bush and this would slip in and rotate inside the gear.

Its a SC primary gear 1275 type. The bush fits in the gear but it would have to be pressed in.

Thanks

You are correct in your assumption, a floating bush should just slip in.

Thanks Wil, I thought so.

Will see what minispares say.

Also, they don't work in all SC primaries as they can block the oil holes. Certainly JKD ones are no good with them.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

if they are minispares bushes and gears they work in either, so lube it up a tad and slip it in ....lol it seems and looks crazy but dont worry it will work fine.

Yes, if they are MS gears they work.

I tried with oil, a bit of heat on the gear and cooling the bush but still no luck. Will see what mini spares say and try a little wet and dry on the bush to.

Before spares started making there own, they used to sell Jack Knight SC drops. I had exactly the same issue with mine. You have 2 options, get a bush made. Or buy a new set of gears.

Its definitely the floating type as the others are a split bush and this has a chamfer one each end.

Although it does have machine marks on the outer surface.

ahh balls.

Probably that then, the straight cut gearset in the box was quite old.

I had the same issue, and ended up making my own. If its a floating bush, it should have enough clearance on both faces for a film of oil. so if it won't drop it its too big.

Can you measure the bush, and bore of the primary to see how much needs taking off?

I'll take it in to work tomorrow and measure it properly. Only have callipers at home.

I could probably get the gear machined or even the bush to suit. Cheapest option!

That's what I was thinking. If its only a couple of thou, stick it on a mandrel and machine it off.

Minispares said the bush won't fit there own straight cut gears.

Nice of them to mention on the website.

Looks like i'll have to get it machined.

They've updated the website so it actually tells you it doesn't fit.

Bush is getting turned down a smudge with a little step to stop it getting trashed on the oil holes.

Make sure it can't cover the oil holes, it will overheat and seize onto the crank - been there, done that.

I was hoping a small step would be sufficient. Room to let the oil out if the bush moved down that way.

Reading this - http://www.minispares.com/product/classic/C-AEA3240.aspx - it says that you can't use the floating bush on an A+ gear. How do you tell which is which and what would happen if I put it in an A+ gear? Oil holes blocked?

Andy, I've used the floating bush on the A+ gear. I'm pretty sure the Minispares description never had that line of text when I bought mine.

Mine did not fit, it would if pressed in possibly, but that's not the best idea.

Hence why I got it turned down.

They added that line in when I had a moan about it not fitting.

A+ gears have more teeth than pre-A+.
29 from memory.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.
