Ayup all.

Pulled my engine apart the other day and found that 3 out of 4 gudgeon pins had drifted across. Now I've brought replacement rods and pistons so these are now spare to me.

There forged 18cc +20 accralites on distressed and polished rods with arp rod bolts.

I can have them fixed with page buttons for about £120. But what would you guys say there worth / the best way to sell them.

My other option is to fix them and build them back into the short engine they came from.

Cheers eden

lucky it didn't hit the bore ?
not really a contribution to your post but this is why ive chosen to use buttons rather than interference fit or clips of what ever sort
if the parts are still in good shape id free float them with buttons imo
unless you want to upgrade for more boost/hp?

If you had buttons in those the buttons would have been touching the bore by
Now and would not stop this from happening.
I've not seen this either I prefur circlip pistons for this reason

Speeding is like masturbating, everyone does it, but not all of us film it and put it on the internet

Never had a problem with circlips or spring clips coming loose.

Did the clips come out?

pantsed rods, maybe been heated too much to fit/unfit the pins,

doesent happen often, but when it does its normally bye bye block.

this is why I'd only run floating pins and buttons, or clips (propper ones not the crappy circlips on std small bores)

I noticed when fitting my spring clips, that they can be clipped into place, but if the gudgeon pip isn't fitted in the correct central position then the second spring clip will not fully clip into place. It looked and sounded like it had, but there was a gap behind it.

Matty, the Accralite pistons are an interference fit pin.

I used teflon buttons with the Cooper S powermax pistons and didn't have any problems with them, however, they were very short due to the long pins. The accralite pins are quite short and have a tapered bore. Making a teflon button that stays in place and will survive the prolonged reciprocating forces could be a challenge, and I know some one on here has had such a teflon button fail on accralites gouging the bore reverting back to interference fit without problem.

Don't try and resolve the symptom, resolve the problem instead. Replace the rods. Mic up the pins and the little end bores then make sure the interference is adequate and install the pins using the correct procedure.

If you want to have a go with the floating pins, I have a set of rods already honed and I also have some teflon bar that I will be bunging in the for sale section soon, if you are interested..............

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

TBH that looks normal to how mine are, as I can move the piston from side to said and the Pin stick out a little, it's not going past the out side of the piston so isn't a problem.

Best 1/4 mile 13.2 seconds @116 mph

correct me if im wrong

isnt the pin supost to be a press fit in the piston? rather than pressed in the rod?

or have i gotten my wires crossed?
if what im thinking is correct then something is wrong to have the pin move out

Pressed in to the rod buddy. Interference fit into them.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.
