My squareback will now be tax exempt. Now I know ive got to get the v5 changed to historic. But can I send this off or do I need to go to an office? Also can I do it before the 1st?

The car is now sorn for the month as I carnt drive for the next few weeks due to an operation.

I just recently changed mine to historic, had to send it off as nearest office was miles and miles away, they will also send you back a tax disc if you send the relevant documents away with the V5.

I don't think its rolling, I think they've just extended it a year Steve. It was 73.

998 t2 ongoing project.

At the minute its not rolling, if the car was made before 1st jan 1973 then it was exempt but now they are moving it to 1st jan 1974

Can't remember if I sent the originals. Think I did. You get them back first then a couple of days later the tax disc arrived. Took a couple of to 3 weeks to come back though.

Depends if you want to keep the old book, if you take it to a DVLA office. They just stamp the old book and give you it back. If you send it in you won't get it back, even if you ask.

As with anything to do with the DVLA....recorded delivery for everything you send!....have known a couple of v5's vanish for over a year....turned up in the end but in the mean time denied all
knowledge.

They got it alright, as I was issued with a new book, just wouldn't/didn't send the old one back. Stupidly I didn't photocopy it before, so if I want a copy I'd need to buy a heritage cert. Just a shame as I have everything else from the mini's history.
