I have a 1:1 set of straight cut drop gears and a 3:1 FD with 4 pin diff.

Just wondering what sort of power I'd be looking at running without the need for straight cut gears.
Anybody running standard gears with just straight drops?

Matt

King Gaycharger, butt plug dealer, Sheldon Cooper and a BAC but generally a niceish fella if you dont mind a northerner

Rotherham, South Yorkshire

We ran them on the metro van up to about 160 bananas. Smashed the cage on the first motion shaft bearing doing emergency starts at Avon.

Not sure if Robert has a full helical set, I'm sure it's been mentioned before.

I ran a 2.9 with std drops and 120bananas no worries. Would last forever at that.

I run helical drops and a straight cut clubman set .

Medusa + injection = too much torque for the dyno ..https://youtu.be/qg5o0_tJxYM

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

go the way roberts gone *Yes* clubman set and helical drops, the drops and the clubman set are roughley the same price ............... with the clubman set you get better ratios ............... also in combination with helicall drops its a alot less noise, with the clubmanset i would say only 4% over helical gearset ............ i have stripped boxes and theres no wear with this combination even at 190 hp levels. and over 10k miles.

As much as I respect roberts input, I would go Sc drops over about 180hp,

yes, robert has done helical drops well over 200hp, but you have to factor knowledge, mechanical, sympathy luck, and the right parts,

personally I have broken helical drops at about 80hp

Helical drops, helical box, 3.1 diff and 130nanas. Touch wood haven't had any failures as yet with 2 years of abuse.

Life is always a matter of opinion and quite frankly, no ones opinion really matters.

I think a lot is down to the raw torque, and how the box is put together so here is no stack up of tolerances.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

how do you mean graham? is this meaning lash in the gear set?

im looking at mine atm id like to do it the best i can. understand that things like the lay gear thrust must be set and duble roaller ect but are you tanking about things like how much movement each gear has side to side and for running clearance? if so how dose one sort that out?
not sure lol its a straight clubman set x pin on 2.95fd

err bit of a hijack
