Hi my name is Adam Blaikie and I started my project 5 years ago. At the time I fitted the bulkhead box trial fitted the engine then had the car painted. Basically he made an arse of it and the cars new name is 50 shades of grey! That pissed me off and I had also started a self build house project so it sat there since. The engine I had got was rebuilt and run in but he had spent all the money on the engine and the car was bit of a rust bucket. Trouble is I can't even remember the spec now and want to get it up and running for my wedding at the end of june! Whats peoples advice I want to risk it and install the engine. Keep boost low and see how it goes. I don't mind pulling the engine back out in a year I just want it back on the road or I am never going to get back into it! The wedding is a good goal.

Welcome to tm.

You could install the engine on the basis it is a standard turbo unit for now and go from there

Will it likely b ok after sitting? It turns over fine by hand. 8psi a safe level? Is there anyway boost could have been adjusted. Without fitting a bleed valve?

Get an oil pressure gauge fitted temporarily and connect the starter and earth up, back fill the oil pump (take the big bolt out of the pipe and fill the hole with oil, then turn the engine backwards by hand - repeat a few times as the oil disappears).

Then turn it over on the starter and make sure it builds oil pressure.

Then get a compression tester and do a dry and then wet compression check. This will tell you if the top end (valves and piston rings) are in reasonable order.

If both these give reasonable results, fit it. If not pull it apart and sort it.
