So I grabbed an Ital, yanked the A+ block, dropped a turbo head and bits on it, threw it into a Marina...

anyway, all running very nice, but it doesn't boost, you hear the turbo spin up but no extra power and no release from the dump valve.
please could someone point me in the right direction to start diagnosing. No charge leaks. Many thanks in advance.

yeah, you need some engine load to make boost.

I do have load, I am driving the car up the road. It's been 13 years in the making and just tuned the engine up, timing, dwell, tappets, colortune at various rpm, fuel pressure gauge on regulator to get exactly 7psi at feed to hif when rising rate not activated. I feel turbo spin up but no boost and no dump valve release.

Do you have a boost gauge fitted to confirm that there is no boost?

Are you sure that the actuator is fully closing the wastegate?

Here are the pictures of the build

I would like to say thank you very much in advance for all help and for suggestion of using a boost gauge to see what is there. I will install one tomorrow.

What is the best place to tee one in?

Your plumbing is all jacked up... This is how it should be:

http://turbo-mini.com/59247/33248.html

And is it my imagination or is that "duck call" dump valve not showing as wide open in that picture???

The dump valve pilot, as with the boost gauge, need to be connected to the inlet manifold. Not the plenum, the carb connection, or anywhere else. They MUST be connected to the inlet.

Easiest option is to remove, and drill and tap the banjo bolt in the middle of the inlet and put a tee in it - one for the DV, the other for the gauge.

Alternativly, do it once and righ; remove the inlet and put two hose tails in there for the DV/ gauge...

I,d just try removing and blanking off that dump valve and its connections to see what difference that made.

ps never was and am not a boy racer, thank you for the advice. Just putting a hose tail in the banjo bolt for now.

Thank you everyone, I will be donating to the server fund for your help! I will see if there is any boost tomorrow.
Is there an alternative modern replacement to the T3 turbo?

Just jump stright to the GT1752, and fit an intercooler. A 2wd cossie unit might fit behind your grill for the ultimate stealthy look...

Wow!!!!!

I'll be donating £20 tomorrow to the altrezia server fund!

I took the banjo bolt, drilled and tapped a hose tail, plumbed in a boost gauge and a tee to the dump valve and went whoop tooshing up the road, brilliant!
Thank you for the help.

Misses a bit as although I got the mixture tuned by using a colortune kit, this was only done at idle. One cylinder was misfiring and I got it to fire by pulling the HT lead off whilst the engine was running and 'dried off' the plug by creating a larger gap. I'll buy some new plugs tomorrow based on my findings here as to the best plugs.

The car doesn't pull like it should but it goes!!!

My question now is the turbo pressure outlet (the little one) that goes to the actuator has two outputs, one big pipe to the actuator, and one small end (I blocked it off for now) what should go here (fourth photo down, above)

Many thanks.

Leave it blocked off.
Buy an AEM wideband O2 sensor for checking your mixture.

stock t3 metro wastegate setting , you have to t in a line between the wastegate and boost point ,and then pop a bleed valve on it ,this will leak air out and increase the boost.
