Just rebuilding my gearbox for the first time.
After many problems I had finally cracked it, then I actually cracked it.
Chipped a tooth off the 1st 2nd Syncro housing reverse thingy whilst tightening up the mainshaft.

Was locking the box in first and third. Loosly bolted the block to the casing for support whilst tightening.

This is why I love TM. What a great thread (apart from the issue, I suppose).

Couldn't agree more Alex, I was just venting and having a rant, didn't even post in the wanted section.
Been offered a replacement part and got some advice on how to do the job better next time round.
TM is the best!

Is something not quite right there, 2nd and 3rd appear to be barely meshing.

He's right you know...

I bet the main bearing is not seated far enough

The meshing from input/first motion shaft to the layshaft seems to be inline though, so whats causing the rest to be out? somink not right

I see what you mean. Probably the main bearing not seated right. I wouldn't have seen it slip with the block attached. Definitely something to look out for when I put it back together.

Whilst undoing a gearbox i've had teeth shear off and come at me like bullets due to a knackered bearing. Top tip cover the box with a blanket when undoing the mainshaft bolts
