So, I messed up again.

I installed the crown wheel bearing before installing the bush *blush*

Any tips on sizing the bush without access to the bearing journal for a lathe jaw?
It looks like the backface of the crown wheel (output shaft thrust surface) is supposed to be perpendicular to the bearing bore. I was thinking I could mount on this, indicate in on the bearing OD and then mill (CNC circular interpolation) the bushing.
The major challenge I see is that the bearing has some axial clearance. I'll most likely destroy the bearing trying to take it off.

Any ideas?
Thanks!

I assume you have the sealed cartridge bearing fitted rather than the race/cage style standard bearings?

If so then remove the differential bearing from the journal on the crownwheel by pulling on the outer race with a 3 legged puller/press if you can't get down behind the bearing to engage on the inner race.

You wont damage it as it will take very little force to remove it compared to that required to damage the bearing, I've had to do this before.

The crownwheel can then be held on the journal and the bush can be reamed, not milled, to size.

Dang, I've got the standard race/cage style bearing of which the old one was a total pain to get off. I ended up pulling the outer race off. Bummer.

For the reaming, what size ream did you use? I believe the finished size should be 1.030", not sure if my 1" will go over enough.

The outer race is supposed to come off the race/cage style bearings. With a puller/press the inner race can then be pulled off when the outer and cage have been removed.

You'll have to measure your actual reamer size to see what it will go out to. Alternatively bore the bush out on the lathe

Well. That was stupid. I can't get the bolts on without taking the bearings out. Damn.
Ended up pulling the bearing off and getting the job done. Feeling pretty supid. Oh well
