There are two first motion shaft bearings.

From the primary gear on the end of the crank, the next drop gear "down" is the idler gear. The last drop gear (lowest one) is the input gear. The input gear fits onto the end of the 1st motion shaft. Although it is called a shaft, it doesn't really look like a "conventional shaft".

On the gearbox side of the input drop gear, there is a large roller bearing, approx 4" (guess?) diameter. This is the first motion shaft "main" bearing.

On the clutch side of the input gear, is a much smaller bearing, approx 1.5" diameter. This sits on the "nose" of the first motion shaft, and its outer race sits in the drop gear casing. When you slide the drop gear casing onto the gearbox studs, the bearing then runs in its outer race. This is known "correctly" as the "1st motion shaft nose support bearing" and is the item that is SLIGHTLY larger on the turbo engines only, and it is only a slight difference.

If anyone has got a picture then that would explain this far better, but I don't have a picture, and can't be bothered to move 2 cars to open the garage up and take one at this time of night!

so its the one that is on the out side of the gear box, sits on the outside after the lower gear that goes into the ali drop gear casing eg being the bit that bolts the engine half and gear box together am i correct, that bearing being one that looks like a flower kind of any way
