I was flicking through machine mart book at work earlier, they have a tool in there what in conjunction with an air compresor allows you to get the valve springs off with head on*surprised*

I suppose you have both valves shut and piston at bdc, fill the bore up to 90psi through the spark plug hole and way you go.*oh well*

If you released the pressure I expect you could also check guide wear:cool:

Any good only cost ?10*oh well*

Never actually tried one but certainly seems a good idea, as its Jim's ball of string *smiley*

I know they use the comressed air version on older fords a fair bit so i was told.

suppose you feed the string down the sparkplug hole and turn engine round by hand to push under valves

I made a tool to do exactly this, so I could change the valve springs. Shoving rope down the sparkplug hole works a treat.

I did it several times with the compressed air method. Made a handy tool myself to remove the collars easily.

I know a guy who uses nylon rope and stuffs it into the bore, then slowely turns the engine over so it come up to the bottom of the valve, then pops the spring down and collets out etc...
