Hi guys, I have been an avid reader for a long time grabbing pointers and learning as I read. I have been also learning and getting help from Matt Read over here in Aus. So this is taking me friggin ages to get to this point and I will take a couple of years more to finish. Engines going into an 80 Moke, fuel injected and turbo'd. A few foto's of the stuff I have collected for the build.

Hey Turbo Moke, on the Sunshine Coast. Have you got a link to your thread? Wouldn't mind seeing what your up to.

Thanks, yeah the crank is nice eh, hopefully it will perform when called upon. We're at the stage of trying to get a centre main cap made, I haven't really got too far with it yet, trying to do a 4 bolt design but with splayed bolts on the outer instead of having the two outside bolts parallel to the originals. Just before anyone pings me it is a k1200 LT head with an 1100 rocker cover .

Thanks for the welcome. The alternator is a bit big but I have space for it and it's billet, so I have soft spot for it.

I was wondering too, I am also starting to look at the gearbox side of things. I have picked up a 5626 case and was thinking of a close ratio synchro straight cut gear set and one of Swiftunes LSD's. So what I was wondering is if (apart from going to the trouble Matty has) what steps would you guys suggest as far as strengthening the box to get the most out of it? I'm sure it will be the weak link...

Yeah Brett your right it is the DC5 set up. The pistons are a billet piston and one of Nick's design. They are nice and light and I had to wait two months to get them made. They're 40 thou over with a 15cc dish to get the compression ratio down. Hopefully they will go ok.

Very nice!

Speeding is like masturbating, everyone does it, but not all of us film it and put it on the internet

What is the target power output and useage of the engine?

Looking at the bottom end I would assume it will be making a lot of power and driven hard.

I would say a nicely stress relieved 5626 case, minispares evolution gear set and a quaife ATB or even bit the bullet and fit the Swiftune dog kit.

Edit, I'd love a 16v moke.

hi bud welcome to the site, looking good on the build so far. well worth you starting keeping a log of what you have done in the show section on the forum. In respect of gearbox's I am no expert, but I have a SCCR set with atb diff, this should be well up for the job. A lot of the guys on here are running high power outputs with similar boxes, you should not have an issues. I can't on the lsd you have described, but there is s recent topic on the site re lsd's, maybe worth a read.

Nice. Thats not a Swifty flywheel is it?

I seriously doubt it!

Yes it is a Swiftune lightened flywheel and backing plate, I think it's made to the same spec as the works rally flywheel? In fact the only things that aren't from Swiftune so far are the MED balancer and Matt Read's kit. I trust people who race.

I will get a photo of the car, might start a thread in the garage section soon too. It's basically a wreck that I bought for $500. An Aussie gal body Moke all rusty with holes everywhere. I have started the repairs and am changing a lot of things on the way. The plan for the car is to be registered on the road and 95% of the use will be for road stuff. But I also want to do hill climbs in it. So that's why I'm thinking of staying a synchro box, but am interested in the relieving comment made, can someone please explain what's involved?

Thoughts for the gear set and diff were the the Swiftune 4sp close ratio synchro set made by Quaife? And either a tranx Mark 6 LSD or an ATB, probably the tranx diff at this stage, although I would like some thoughts on that.

Haven't got too far on the ecu or turbo yet, I want to go sequential injection and a good turbo, but haven't thought too much about that as I have no experience in either. I have a good mate over here that has a shop that all they handle is pretty much fabrication, injection and engine swaps they trade as A&M auto in Noosa. Their web site isn't fantastic but they have a good rep and I trust them, he grew up around Mini's and they know their stuff so I will lean on them once the power plant is done.

Thanks.

ah, I see. Why did you not go for his Super lightweight flywheel?

I seriously doubt it!

Hey Matt, hope all's going good for you at the moment, will catch up soon I spose.

Well I am by no means a competent engine designer or builder, so I try and listen to those with more experience but I do think though that the lighter pistons and rods with the albeit lighter flywheel will be enough. I have heard a few stories of ultra light flywheels stalling easily, having to rev it hard to take off. Swiftune suggested this would be a good match for what I want. But I will add that I have never driven a car with a super light flywheel so I can't speak from experience.

Come on then what turbo

When I know you'll know, but once again happy to listen for suggestions.
