As you may have guessed ive got a case with buggered threads...

the case is out of the car and needs a rebuild so now is a good time to save the case

so im looking at a proper fix and also to make the repair better than the factory made the casting

the steel insert should be much better than plain alu threads to the repeated use the plug gets or rather should get in some cases
i think its a better design than the helicoil types as it is sold and should seal better just a wipe of sealant before install and i think it will be good
also as it locks in place i dont have to freak out about it being wound into the sump or fall out

looking at this type of repair

http://catalog.alcoafasteners.com/item/kee...&prodid=3001547

seems to be decant looking will have to check how much meat is left in the case as i dont want it to thin if it can be helped

also i should confirm the std plug thread is 5/8 UNC right?

any way tell me your thoughts or experiences

I've used the repair plugs to good effect.

I've seen them helicoiled but the kit is expensive.

What the mind can conceive the mini can achieve
MITP 2012 17.01 seconds 1/4 mile against "The Don"
MITP 2013 16.83 seconds 1/4 mile

I've heli-coiled both gearboxes I'm currently using without any particular issue
