Anyone have any pointers on where to start looking

Hi I no it's not a turbos car but does anyone have any ideas on what I should look for.

A friend of mine has a super mighty and we went testing yesterday at brands. The car seemed to be going well and he was getting 1.03 min laps in, after around four laps the car just lost power, he managed to limp it back to the pits and after a couple of mins it seemed to start up and run fine. But again after a couple of laps it lost power again. We checked wiring and changed the crank sensor and had a play with the ecu relay and he took the car out but it did the same again.

Another couple of things we noticed was that sometimes when you went to start it the starter would just click but if you turned the ignition off and on again it would start. Could it all be down to the ignition barrel or do you have any other ideas as he is supposed to be racing at brands hatch next month.
