im almost at the point of starting my turbo build for the first time what is the best needle to start with?

what carb HIF44? try a BDD

essentially any NA needle is a good base needle, the fatter the better ( gives good scope for profiling)
i think i went through about 10 needles before settling on 2 hybrids,

both had comparable 0-3 sections ( same profile as a BDD) mid range was very different due to the way the GT20 spooled ( all or nothing )

my low boost needle had the 6-12 stations similar to the BDL ( i think) just abit thinner and was ok upto around 15-18psi
my high boost needle 0-3( same as BDD) 6-12 very thin

both my needles were settup with the jet a couple mm down from the bridge making them very very rich and i used a redesigned lean off pipe with adjustable bleed valve to pull it back by between 4and 6afr at idle and low throttle position
