I appreciate most people running over 9k rpm will be using dog boxes as they will be race cars, but I don't have the budget to stretch to a dog box for the 16v engine. The gear set to be used will be a Minispares Clubman set.

Not much of an input but looking at rpm speed chart (guessworks) it apears what ur saying is correct the faster the gear set moves the larger the rpm gap is between gears makeing the syncrows work more to slow down/speed up to match up and nicely engage as we allready know

I don't see the torque the drop gears will see as an issue. It should be less than 190 lb/ft, even then will still be running a relatively high final drive compared to most turbo motors. On 7th Oct, 2010 5haneJ said:

Historic racers in australia (pre 1965,pre1972) all have to use standard boxes. SC, CR gearset and often rev around 9000rpm, but they are NA , and probably put out 140-150HP at flywheel.. again most use double grey diaphragm.. they synch okay and they last okay in a race setting,,, don't think anything revving at 9000 and meshing will be bullet proof though... |
