right then i have made my mind up that my engine is not going back together without a set in so trying to get some info or guidance to help me chose/have the correct set built

so firstly can they be bought for 060 calvar ST flat top high silicone pistons or is this a case of having them made as i suspect?

the block have been bored 66.145mm (actual size) for 060 calvar ST flat top high silicone pistons
i measured the #1 piston grove with calipers now im not happy to use that for total seal to size a set on so i was thinking depending on what you guys say if it will be good or not?

i will spend some time after posting this to mark a new piston ring and mesure it with the micrometer then install it on the piston then use a feeler gauge at the place marked to find the remainder and add them together or stack them in the micrometer for the ring land size?
but will this be ok to do in terms of acriusy?
im not going to buy a grove mic just for this as its like 300 bucks and i dont trust the shops or at-least ones near me

caliper read aprox 1.6mm x 3mm for compression and oil 3.15 x 3.3 aprox land size

also i miced the ring set and found that they are not equal thickenss all the way around? this is a new

i have emailed calver st but no reply yet that was yerserday morning s not been to long yet

Send the piston to whoever is supplying the rings and let them measure.

That way if the rings are wrong, it's their responsibility to resolve it.

If you give them measurements that are in any way wrong, you will be liable.

right well ive gotten the best monuments i could and re checked Manny times i believe the top land is 1.63mm second is 1.60mm the oil 3.2

i do like the idea of having the ring company measure it up but to send them to usa is just not going to happen id need to find a place at least in the country local if possible

when i call VPW i will ask them if they whould mesure for me as they are haveing the rings made on my behalf that way its like you say VPW whould have to rectafy any problems as id given the pistons for measurement

i think ill have them make the set going from those monuments as its only 130aud ish for the set chrome top, gap less 2nd, 3 part oil cant complain about that i think

There was a spot in Dunnington near York that did these.

Why are you buying Calver pistons from the Uk and taking them to oz when he buys them off Graham Russell in Oz in the first place...?? might be easier to ask Graham the question and he will probably tell you all the dimensions.

As long as you're happy with them, and they performed as expected, that's all that matters! I just read it recently and thought I'd share my findings

Gr defo has the pistons made. KC uses the same ones

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

I've little doubt the article is correct, but no harm in trying to seal the cylinders and the gapless stuff are very good quality.

Some people do obsess about ring gaps...as long as they aint too tight, I wouldnt worry too much

A big gap will never cause the rings to butt/seize destroying an engine ! Too tight can

i should do a leak down test although the current head is shit its std and well worn out guides with sunken and pitted seats still cranks over 200psi tho..

the end gaps are all kinder a bit big i did want to have the set exchanged as it was ment to be a file fit for the 2.603" bore but turned out to be at or just over in the end gap i ended up just running with it bit bigger never hurts

GR is one of the best a-series engine builders in the world... he makes and sells all of his own parts... give him a bell if need be
