yep tryed to ajust my minis height and the blody adjuster is frozen so gave up trying with it in the car so pulled them out in the hopes id have a chance no good

ive tryed to heat the alu part as hot n fast as i canalbe it propain gun then with penetrating oil hit the impact gun on it but no joy threw in in the corner to cool off think the stell threads go hot aswell

the rubber dount is also stuck on the thing aswell

also tryed while hot to hold in in the vice then the 4 foot breaker bar but it just pulls out of the vice and makes a mess of the alu so think impact is the better way but if i can get it to move that is

also tryed a bolt in the dount to hopefully press it off the hi lo no joy

the steel parts have rusted and the alu has coroded and swolen by the looks of it

at this stage the soft alu is looking nasty from all the vice marks and air chistle perker marks so thought id just buy replacements but just looked at the dam price so will have to keep at it

any trips guys?

Spray loads of penetrating fluid either side of the threads and leave overnight, normally I whack between the hilo flange and the donut with a cold chisel and it pops off, but ive had to destroy the original trumpets to get the donuts off before, literally nothing would get it off. Have you tried slackening off the locknut and tightening it up with the gun then backing it off? Try repeating that for a little bit. Also with heat you don't really want it on there for more than 30 seconds and keep moving around the hilo to keep the heat in the ally and away from the thread. Dip the end of the adjuster in cold water too before trying to undo after some heat.

got the adjusters out finally

gave them another good helping of penetrating fluid like you say and gave it some impact action didnt want to come lose so gave it some heat still nothing so put that one aside

the other one got the same treatment but when it came to heat i sat the torch against the vie fith the flame pin pointed right on the thinnest part near the threads while going to town with the air impact this went on for some solid 10mis by now it was good and hot starting to smell so took the heat off as i want to reuse the rubber so more oil burning bubbling smelly mess but finally starting to move so started rocking it at this point i almost knew it was out so just worked it till it came out ye ha

went back to the first one with the same results so well pleased

the rubber is still stuck on the hi lo bit so there are soaking over night as id like to re assembly it with out messing up my new sub frame paint work

spent some time with the belt sander and die grinder to tidy up my butcher marks cant do anything about the low parts but took the high bits off look half as bad now lol no one looks at the front hi lo once its on the car

good idea about cooling the steel of in water while heating the alu to make it loosen up probaly a beter way than just cooking the nuts off it like i did but i see the post after its apart lol defantly whould have done it that way if id seen the post before haveing a second go

well i got them off the diesel did the trick i think along with heat and cooling cycles

local heating of the aly and then dunked into the diesel to cool off

now reassembled with a healthy amount of anti seize

Before I fitted mine I drilled & tapped a small hole in them for a grease nipple. might be worth doing whilst they're off the car.

I can't take credit, one of the brands possibly adjuster rides came with grease nipples as standard, I was just copying them.
