Hello I have a 1989 ERA mini, I just had my mechanic do the head gasket on the engine. now the car will idle or drive for only about one minute. I couldn't go far just around the corner because it cuts off but fires rite up after it cuts off. my mechanic seems to believe its the fuel pressure regulator. I was wondering is their a factory alarm system on these cars that may be interfering. I didn't see any. also when driving it seem like it may be running out of fuel. just weird that it stalls after about one minute. the mechanic states that it has good fuel pressure to the regulator, but its only trickling out to the carb. any ideas ?

Blockage or restriction after the reg? Maybe fuel line breaking down.

Fuel supply problem of some sort.

They're very basic setups, any mechanic with half a brain should be able to work through it quite easily.

One step at a time.

Have a look here it explains how the fuel pump works. http://www.eraturbo.co.uk/technical/technical.htm

Could be that the running period you are getting is one float chamber of fuel. The fuel pump runs with the ignition switched on but then needs a supply via the oil pressure switch to keep running.

Could be a sticky float needle valve again causing fuel starvation see Tom Fentons excellent rebuild guide here: http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=2878

Fuel regulator may be at fault, can you see fuel in the fuel filter which should be fitted in line just before the carb

My final theory and what actually seemed to cure mine was replacing the ignition module which is attached to the distributor - mine had badly corroded terminals and may have been disturbed during the head gasget change.

Good luck! Do post what finally cures it.

Have you wired the relay incorrectly?

Thanks to everyone, I think I may have narrowed it down to the pressure regulator. thanks all.
